16 Aug Ravens Ready for Friday Knight Lights
Bridgend Ravens host English side Doncaster Knights in their first pre-season friendly on Friday evening (7:30pm).
The game is the Ravens first taste of action since they staved off relegation with victory at Sardis Road on May 11th. There’s been plenty of change at the Morganstone Brewery Field over the summer, and with a strong core of last season’s squad retained, new Head Coach Steve Jones will be keen to put his men to the test against the English Championship heavyweights.
The Anglo Welsh clash forms the perfect curtain raiser for Saturday’s Wales v England World Cup warm up match at the Principality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Led by former Wales’ Coach, Clive Griffiths, The Knights finished last season in tenth place in the 12 team RFU Championship with eight wins from their 22 games. They finished nine points clear of relegated Richmond and have bolstered their squad over the summer, including the signing of Pyle product Kyle Evans from Indigo Premiership champions Merthyr.
The game will be played as two, standard forty minute periods with rolling substitutes available for both sides. Bridgend will take the opportunity to experiment with their squad; introducing some new signings and some players on trial from local partner clubs.
