06 Mar Team to face Carmarthen (H)
Carmarthen Quins make the trip to the Morganstone Brewery Field this weekend to face Bridgend Ravens at the earlier time of 1:30pm.
The Quins will be looking to return to winning ways following last weekend’s 6pts all draw with Ebbw Vale at Carmarthen Park. Bridgend know that they need to start picking up victories if they are to stay in the Indigo Premiership next season, and will need a big performance against the side sitting second in the division. The Ravens last outing was a hugely disappointing 41pts to 12 defeat at Cardiff Arms Park, leaving them five points adrift at the bottom of the division.
Earlier in the season, it was a victory for Carmarthen at Carmarthen Park by 38pts to 8. Bridgend’s points that afternoon came from a Jacob Chilcott penalty and a try from Dewi Cross.
To get themselves out of trouble, Bridgend know that they’ll need more performances like the one which saw them beat the Quins at the Morganstone Brewery Field last season. Owen Howe kicked all the points as the home side took the spoils 19pts to 17. A Ben Jones try and 14 points from Owen Howe guided Bridgend to a massive four points. Bridgend also won the game the previous season by a narrow margin, triumphing 11pts to 6.
Steve Jones and his coaches make a few changes to the side which lost at the Arms Park last time out. Owen Howe comes back into the side in a back three alongside Tyler Williams, who impressed last weekend as a replacement and Dewi Cross. Stuart Floyd Ellis is the new partner for the powerful Adam Jones. Jacob Chilcott and Chris Williams are given another go as the half back combination.
Travis Huntley returns from international duty to bolster the Ravens back row, where he’s selected alongside the experienced Ben Mayers Davies and captain for the day, Adam O’Driscoll. Lloyd Ashley is back with his hometown Premiership side to partner Ben Jones in the second row. Rhodri Apsee, Gareth Harvey and Moldovan Gheorghe Gajion make up the Bridgend front row.
