Bridgend Ravens welcome Cardiff to the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field for a vital Principality Premiership Tier 2 clash (2:30pm).
The Ravens have turned the corner in the league, picking up important wins over Llanelli and Swansea in recent weeks to put them firmly in the mix for the end of season playoffs. The game against Cardiff on Saturday is Bridgend’s final home game of the regular season before difficult trips to Bargoed and Neath follow.
Cardiff currently sit bottom of Tier 2, enduring four defeats from their four games so far. The latest, a home reverse to Llanelli, saw Gareth Thomson’s late try salvage a losing bonus point for the hosts. They’ll be keen to improve their current league standing, and avoid becoming the first Cardiff side to lose to Bridgend three times in one season since the semi professional era kicked off in 2003.
Bridgend continue to select the side which has steered them into the playoff places so far. The backline remains unchanged from the side which kept Swansea pointless. Mathew Edwards, Tom O’Flaherty and Mike Powell make up the back three with Joseph Gatt and captain Jamie Murphy paired in midfield. Youngsters Jacob Lloyd and Connor Tantum are selected at half back.
Up front, there is only one change due to injury. The front row of Eddie Drake, Iestyn Merriman and Garyn Daniel gets another chance to impress with Owain Lloyd coming in for the injured Kyle Maiden, to partner Jack Pope in the second row. The back row comprises Tom Morgan, Gareth Beer and Matthew John.
Should he appear off the bench, Cai Lewis will make his 100th Bridgend Ravens appearance, becoming only the second member of the current squad to do so. Ashton Evans makes a welcome return to the squad after missing the win over Swansea with Will Baird and Morgan Jones continuing their return from injury with a spot amongst the replacements.
