Team to face RGC (H) WRU National Cup

2015 WRU National Cup winners Bridgend Ravens welcome RGC 1404 in the same competition on Saturday afternoon with a place in the quarter final on the line (KO 2:30pm).

Three time winners Bridgend enjoyed a bye through the first round and now face off with RGC in the last sixteen of the competition. RGC breezed into the last 16 with a comprehensive 81-7 victory over Dunvant at Parc Eirias, racing in for thirteen scores.

The sides met earlier in the campaign in monsoon conditions at the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field, with the visitors coming away with a richly deserved victory by 3-20. The North Walians went on to comfortably finish in the Top 8 of the Principality Premiership, booking their place in Tier 1 for the second half the seasonal split.

RGC have one win out of their two games in Tier 1 of the Principality Premiership. They kicked off with an impressive 25-24 win over big spending Merthyr on match day 1, before falling to defeat at Church Bank against Llandovery on Saturday afternoon by 20-10. Bridgend have two defeats to their name, but can count themselves unlucky after losing narrowly at Pandy Park against Cross Keys last time out. Bridgend have one semi final to look forward to already this season, with a Foster’s Challenge Cup date with Bedwas in a month’s time, and will be hoping to progress in this season’s WRU National Cup, starting on Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Howells retains his place in an unchanged back three alongside Garin Lougher and Mathew Edwards. Joseph Gatt and Ryan Evans pair up in midfield with Joseph Scrivens making his fiftieth appearance at outside half. Chris Williams comes in for the injured Will Baird at 9.

The front row comprises Ollie Evans, Iestyn Merriman and Garyn Daniel with Ashton Evans and Kyle Maiden, also making his fiftieth appearance for his home town club, are again paired in the second row. Captain Adam O’Driscoll joins Matthew John and Tom Morgan in the back row.
