Bridgend Ravens slumped to a Boxing Day defeat against basement side Bargoed at Bargoed Park.
The Ravens headed to Bargoed Park in search of a fifth league win of the season where bottom side Bargoed were in search of a second win in the Principality Premiership since their promotion.
A tight first half saw Bridgend head in at halftime with a slim 3-0 lead. A Joseph Scrivens penalty was all that separated the sides in a half that defences dominated. Both teams had opportunities in the opposition 22 but neither were able to convert.

Bridgend added to their lead just two minutes into the second half. Scrivens added his second penalty but the hosts looked to up the intensity and launch a second half fightback.
Bargoed finally managed to put together some phases and made the Ravens pay as the first try of the match arrived. A well worked backs move from a lineout inside the Bridgend half saw Ashley Norton break away into the Visitors 22. The perfectly timed offload allowed Phil Price to stroll over. Fullback Calum Jones added the conversion to push Bargoed into the lead for the first time in the match.
Jamie Murphy sent a 52 metre penalty just wide before Calum Jones missed an easier kick in front of the sticks shortly after.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, the hosts went in search of a winning score, putting pressure on the Ravens defence on close the the Bridgend try line. A Bargoed scrum 5 metres out was initially well defended by Bridgend, the Ravens putting their bodies on the line. A second scrum moments later was unstoppable and Bargoed got their second try. Jones again converted for an 8 point lead with five minutes to play.
Bridgend went in search of a try of their own late on. The Ravens turned down a shot at goal, opting instead for a lineout looking for a powerful maul drive. Bridgend edged towards the Bargoed line but were held up. The Ravens threw everything at Bargoed with the clock ticking towards 80 but the hosts held firm to secure just their second league win of the season and confirm Bridgend’s place in the bottom 8 for the second half of the season.
