Match Report

Bridgend 14-55 Bedwas

Bridgend Ravens were humbled by Bedwas in the Foster’s Challenge Cup semi final at the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field.

Bridgend Ravens won the right to host the game after a coin toss, but a first half onslaught from the visitors wrapped the game up before 40 minutes.

A first try, run in from their own 22, with just over a minute played set the tone for an all out attack display from Bedwas that left the Ravens reeling. Six first half tries, plus 13 points from the boot of Richard Powell put the game to bed in a hugely comprehensive first half display from the visiting side.

The Bridgend faithful had a glimmer of hope as Ravens Wing Tom O’Flaherty got the hosts first points of the afternoon with a try just moments into the second half. Joseph Scrivens notched the conversion to give the home crowd something to cheer about.

Bedwas killed off any hope Bridgend had of a comeback with a seventh try before former Raven James Dixon was shown a yellow card. Bridgend were unable to take advantage of the extra man and Bedwas added an eighth try whilst down to 14. Tom O'Flaherty added a consolation score with time up which Jacob Lloyd converted which wrapped up a horrible day for the hosts. Exeter bound O’Flaherty was rightly named Man of the Match at full time by the home faithful, having boosted his tally to five tries in just seven games for the Ravens this season.

A disappointing afternoon for Bridgend following a powerful and clinical first half performance from Bedwas, the visitors making it through to their second Fosters Challenge Cup Final in two years. Bridgend will return to action when Swansea visit the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field in a fortnight.
