RGC secured top spot in Principality Premiership West with a hard fought win against a determined Bridgend Ravens side at the Morganstone Brewery Field.
A positive start from Bridgend saw Cai Evans pounce for an opportunistic score with less than 2 minutes played. A charged clearance allowed Evans to outpace the North Walians’ defenders to score. Evans converted.
Cai Evans added to his tally, pushing the Ravens into a ten point lead with just over half an hour played. The young fly halves penalty would turn out to be Bridgend's final score of the afternoon despite the hosts undoubted effort and endeavour, RGC were able to repel the Ravens’ attack for the remainder of the match.
Jacob Botica landed his side's first points of the afternoon from the tee before the Colwyn Bay side struck with the clock on 40 for their first try of the match. Dion Jones touched down for the try with Botica converting to level the score at halftime.
HT Bridgend Ravens 10-10 RGC
An opportunity presented itself early in the second half as RGC found themselves down to 14 men with Evan Yardley yellow carded. It was the 14 men of the visiting side that produced the better rugby however, managing to outscore Bridgend 10 points to nil in the ten minutes that Yardley was off the field.
With the clock ticking towards 80, the visitors bagged a third try as Tom Hughes sliced through. A third successful conversion from Botica rounded off a fine second half from RGC who cemented top spot in the West conference. Bridgend had secured a 6th place finish regardless of the outcome on Saturday and will carry 3 points into the second half of the Season.
