JAMES AND DIXON TO LEAD RAVENS IN 14/15

By Aled Thomas | 27/06/2014

Bridgend Ravens can confirm that hooker Ashleigh James has been named captain for the 2014/15 season.

Following on from his fantastic form last season, James takes over from Alex Jones who has departed to join Pontypridd. Jones had an injury ravaged career at Bridgend, so captaincy is not something new for Ashleigh, who led the side numerous times in Alex’ absence last season. The club can also confirm that James Dixon has taken on the role as the club's vice captain.

27 year old James was named as the Ravens Supporters Player of the Year and voted by his fellow players into the Principality Premiership XV for last season. Ashleigh has played 45 times for the club, crossing the whitewash 14 times, which include 9 efforts last season.

“It is a great honour to be leading Bridgend for this season. I captained the side against my former side Neath at the start of the last campaign, something I really enjoyed, especially as we got the win.

“Our focus is now on the action packed pre season fixture schedule that has been announced with our aim being to build on the progress made at the end of last season and continue to drive things forward.

“Your support has been great and is massive both home and away. If you haven’t renewed your season ticket you can do so via the website, so I'd encourage all supporters to get behind us next season and join or renew now.”

New vice captain Dixon starred 22 times for the Ravens last year, scoring 144 points. The 28 year old Maesteg product will bring a wealth of experience to the side as they look to kick on from last campaign.

“First of all, I couldn't think of a better person to lead us in to the 2014/15 season than Ash. After a tough season last year, as a squad are under no illusions about the challenges that face us this coming season.

I would say our goal for next season is to be more competitive. However looking back at results and performances I would say that we were competitive in the vast majority of games. Hopefully we can build on the tail end of last season’s performances and keep improving as a unit.

I for one am excited to be involved with the Ravens for another campaign.”
