Swansea (A) - Match Preview

By Aled Thomas | 08/09/2017

Bridgend Ravens travel to St Helen’s for an all Ospreys derby with Swansea on Saturday afternoon (2:30pm).

Both sides have had disappointing starts to the season, suffering defeats in their opening two games. Bridgend went down to Aberavon and Llandovery, with Swansea also suffering a humbling by Aberavon along with Neath on the opening weekend.

Swansea won the corresponding fixture last season, but Bridgend were able to get revenge with a comfortable 19-0 success in the return game at the Brewery Field. The Ravens finished ahead of the Whites last year’s regular season standings and ahead of them in the Tier 2 split standings but both sides will be looking to get this year’s campaign kickstarted with a success on Saturday.

Bridgend make some changes to the team defeated by Llandovery on Saturday. After an impressive first start at fullback, Tyler Williams keeps his place in a back three alongside Ed Doe and Ryan Griffiths. Joseph Gatt and Jamie Murphy are again selected in midfield with Wales U18 star Cai Evans making his debut, playing alongside Will Baird at half back.

After winning Supporters’ Man of the Match last weekend, Rhodri Apsee lines up with Gareth Harvey and Cai Lewis in the front row. Kieran Martin and Jack Pope are the pick at second row, with Adam O’Driscoll, Zac O’Driscoll and Owain Lloyd in the back row.

Another Wales U18 international, Dylan Moss, will hope to make his Bridgend debut from the replacements bench.
