Llanelli 23-18 Bridgend

Bridgend Ravens stumbled to a losing bonus point against Llanelli despite their sluggish performance in the midday match-up at Parc Y Scarlets.

A good start to the match saw Garyn Daniel drive over out wide for a try early in the half but the Ravens produced little else as the half played out, with Llanelli proving their dominance up front with strong scrummaging and powerful maul drives.

A penalty from the boot of Lewis Williams got the hosts on the board before they bagged their first try. Bridgend put themselves under pressure with a poor clearance attempt that was charged down. Llanelli made the most of the gifted field position and crossed out wide for the try. The successful conversion pushed the hosts into a 5 point lead and the Ravens saw second row Chris John sent to the bin for their repeated infringements in the red zone.

Cai Evans landed a long range penalty as halftime approached to narrow the gap between the sides to just two points.

Bridgend's lacklustre second half performance saw Llanelli ease their way further ahead. Too many errors and unnecessary penalties conceded by the Ravens handed Llanelli and their powerful forwards a platform to work with.

With 10 minutes of the second half played, the West Walians pack drove a maul over the line for their second try of the match. Bridgend struggled all afternoon to contain the Llanelli maul despite shoring up the scrum which struggled in the first half.

Llanelli stretched their lead to ten with a penalty as we approached the final ten minutes, seemingly securing victory, however, the Ravens burst to life late in the match.

Harri Morgan's quick tap penalty and break got Bridgend into the Llanelli 22 where the hosts infringed. Ryan Evans slotted the penalty and it took just three minutes for Bridgend to get another score.

Bridgend supporters’ man of the match Nathan Edwards charged a Lewis Williams clearance down and hacked into the Scarlets 22. A second kick into the try area allowed Joseph Gatt to beat the scrambling defenders to score. A precise conversion under pressure from Ryan Evans levelled the score heading into the final five minutes and gave the travelling supporters hope of an unlikely comeback.

Llanelli went straight back to their strength with further indiscipline in defence from Bridgend. The Llanelli maul working for well for the hosts again, a first drive saw Kieran Martin shown yellow for an offside offence. Then a second maul attempt got the hosts over the line in the last minutes which sealed Bridgend's fate, leaving the Ravens to rue their earlier mistakes.
