Swansea (H) Match Preview

After earning their first victory of the season at the Gnoll last time out, Bridgend Ravens welcome Swansea to the Morganstone Brewery Field. (7:10pm).

The hard earned victory over the big spending Welsh All Blacks was just reward for a dogged Bridgend performance in testing conditions. Playing the first half into a strong wind, Bridgend edged ahead thanks to Adam O’Driscoll’s try and Will Holley’s boot. It was a lead they’d refuse to relinquish in a scoreless second period, sending the significant travelling support home happy. This result followed a double bonus point in defeat at Cross Keys on match day 1, leaving Bridgend in sixth place on six points in the early standings.

Swansea have suffered two defeats in their opening two games and head to Bridgend looking to open their account. A 24-10 reverse against Aberavon at the Talbot Athletic Ground kicked off the season before a comeback earned them their first point of the season in a 26-34 defeat. An 80th minute try from Paul John was the Whites’ fourth score earning them a bonus point.

Bridgend were successful the last time the sides met last April. Under glorious late Spring sunshine at the Morganstone Brewery Field, Bridgend thumped Swansea 24pts to 0. The victory followed an earlier 21-19 victory for Bridgend at the same ground, although Swansea did win the other encounter by 22-6 last September at St Helen’s. The previous season, Bridgend triumphed 19-0 over the St Helen’s side.

The squad will train at the Morganstone Brewery Field this evening ahead of the game and the team announcement will be made on Friday morning exclusively on bridgendravens.co.uk.
