RGC 38-15 Bridgend

Bridgend Ravens put in a determined performance in North Wales on Saturday, but it was hosts RGC that came away with a bonus point success.

The Ravens will have been disappointed not to claim any points from the match, but mistakes proved costly for the battling Bridgend side.

Cai Evans opened the scoring with a well taken early penalty, RGC struck for the first try shortly after. With 10 minutes on the clock centre Danny Cross dotted down. Billy McBride, in impressive form from the tee all afternoon, added the conversion.

Bridgend were unable to build on a positive start and RGC went on to dominate the remainder of the half, with Bridgend errors assisting their dominance. Billy McBryde added a penalty before Danny Cross’ strong running saw the centre bag a second try.

HT RGC 17-3 Bridgend Ravens

Bridgend, needing a much improved second half, were slow out of the blocks and RGC went over for a much too easy score, slicing through the Bridgend defence with less than a minute of the half played. But the defiant Ravens upped the intensity to get themselves back into the match shortly after.

Cai Evans straightened the Ravens attack out wide and made good ground into the RGC 22, quick ball from Scrum Half Chris Williams met the perfectly timed charge of Jamie Murphy and the Outside half crashed over.

Bridgend's efforts throughout the second half didn't bring the required scores and as the final 10 minutes approached, RGC claimed a bonus point try.

Late in the game, with Bridgend again building well, Connor Tantum sped the game up with a quick tap penalty and the diminutive scrum half stepped his way over for the Ravens second try. Cai Evans landed the conversion.

Looking for further late scores, Bridgend's attacking from their own 22 handed RGC a final score of the match due to poor handling, killing any Bridgend hopes had of claiming a late point.

With a first round bye in the Cup, the Ravens will be looking to get back on track with a visit to St Helens to take on a resurgent Swansea on the 12th January.
