Team to face Aberavon (A)

By Aled Thomas | 03/05/2019

Bridgend Ravens head to the Talbot Athletic Ground on Saturday afternoon in their penultimate Principality Premiership game of the season (2:30pm).

Almost four years to the day that Bridgend secured their third WRU National Cup, the class of 2018/19 have their own chance to write their names in club folklore by securing Principality Premiership status over the next fortnight.

Bridgend have put their destiny in their own hands with three bonus point wins over RGC, Bargoed and Cross Keys. They currently sit in 11th place, two points ahead of Llanelli and three ahead of Bedwas with two games left. Bridgend know that four points from their final two games will secure their place in next season's Principality Premiership, regardless of other results.

Aberavon's safety was secured some time ago and they sit in sixth place on 83 points. The Wizards have had an impressive campaign, with seventeen wins from their 27 games so far.

Bridgend edge the recent head to head between the sides, winning each of the previous three encounters. The corresponding fixture last season went Bridgend's way by 17pts to 14. Jamie Murphy's 68th minute penalty was enough to secure victory for Silva's side following tries from Stuart Floyd Ellis and Cai Lewis. The fixture earlier in the season was also settled by Murphy, with a drop goal in injury time edging a 16pts to 13 win.

Bridgend stick largely with the side which has delivered three victories on the spin. Owen Howe continues at full back, with Mike Powell and Wednesday's four-try hero Dewi Cross joining them in the back three. Captain Nathan Edwards starts his 29th consecutive league game of the season alongside Stuart Floyd Ellis in the centre. Josh Thomas, fresh from international duty with Wales u20 earlier in the week, partners Connor Tantum at half back.

Bridgend's back row is changed with Dafi Davies, Jordan Collier and Adam O'Driscoll selected. Lloyd Ashley and Ben Jones pair up in the second row. Owen Jordan, Gareth Harvey and Gheorghe Gajion are the front row.
