Bridgend Ravens continued their battle to maintain their place in next season’s Principality Premiership with an impressive bonus point win at Bargoed.
The Ravens headed to Bargoed Park for the re-arranged fixture looking to follow up last weekend’s victory over RGC at the Morganstone Brewery Field. Owen Howe gave the visitors an early lead, but they were worked hard by their resolute hosts; a converted Ben Jones score the only other points of the first half.
Bridgend showed their class in the second half. Man of the Match Jones crossed for a second try before Gheorghe Gajion and Stuart Floyd Ellis wrapped up all five points for Silva’s team.
A tight first half played out between the two sides as mistakes from the two teams kept the score low. Owen Howe slotted an early penalty before Supporters Man Of The Match Ben Jones crossed for the first of his two scores of the afternoon. Powerful maul efforts got Bridgend close. Gheorghe Gajion carried hard and went close before Jones touched down. Howe added the extras.

Bargoed’s best chance for a score came early in the second half but the Ravens defence held firm and cleared their lines.
Bargoed resorted to a kicking game which meant the visitors maintained a large percentage of possession and they made it count with a blistering counter attack. Howe landed a sublime touchline conversion against the wind to extend the Raven’s lead, Bridgend then stepped on the gas adding two further tries ensuring a bonus point was secured less than 10 minutes later.
Less than five minutes later Bridgend added a third try, this time fan favourite Gheorghe Gajion drove over. Quick thinking from Owen Howe as a kickable penalty was turned down for the quick tap led to the Moldovan using his immense power to drive over.
A blistering 8 minutes culminated in the Ravens touching down for a bonus point try. Dewi Cross fielded kicks all afternoon and started another Bridgend attack. Michael Powell made good ground out wide before slick handling skills from Lloyd Ashley set Owain Lloyd on another break. The flanker offloaded to Stuart Floyd Ellis who raced over for the score. Howe added the extras to bring the Ravens to in unassailable 29 points to nil lead with 15 minutes remaining.
Bridgend saw the game out expertly, holding on to their clean sheet in an impressive display. Attentions now turn to another huge clash on Wednesday evening when Bridgend welcome Cross Keys to the Morganstone Brewery Field.
