09 Jul RAVENS BOLSTER BACK DIVISION
With pre season due to get underway on Tuesday, Bridgend Ravens can announce the signing of six new players to bolster their back division.
Newly announced backs coaches Richard Fussell and Tom Grabham will have plenty of talent to work with as they look to put their stamp on the squad which secured a place in the reduced size Premiership last season. They’ll add to an already exciting back line which will feature re-signed players Mike Powell, Nathan Edwards, Morgan Jones, Stuart Floyd Ellis, Jamie Murphy, Chris Williams, Dan James, Geraint Roberts, Tyler Williams and Connor Tantum.
Owen Howe – Howe makes the switch to his home town club permanent after ending last season on loan with the Ravens. Owen’s second spell at the club was just as successful as his first, with the full back making ten appearances; six of those victories, which saw him accumulate 110 points which helped Bridgend maintain their place at the top table of the semi professional game in Wales. Owen’s first spell at Bridgend saw him depart the club in 2015. Since then, he’s played for Cross Keys, Merthyr and Swansea, with a brief stint back at where it all started with Dean Ronan’s Maesteg Harlequins last year. With his 25th birthday in a few months time, Owen’s best rugby years are certainly ahead of him at the Morganstone Brewery Field.
Julian Mogg – Versatile and able to play anywhere in the back division, 23 year old Julian Mogg enhances Bridgend’s back line for the coming season. Julian’s early career saw him play his rugby with Bristol’s Rugby Academy. He spent five years as part of the academy system, where he gained international honours with England South West u16 and 20. Mogg arrived in Wales from Bristol Academy via Filton College in 2014 when he signed with Newport. He played for two years with the Black and Ambers before making the switch to Swansea. Following a brief stint with the All Whites, he made the move cialis generic over the counter east to tie up with Bargoed where he featured against Bridgend last season.
Jacob Chilcott – Outside Half Chilcott makes the move to Bridgend after starring for Bedwas last season. Cardiff born Chilcott’s career started at Rhiwbina, before he made the move to Cardiff Met and then St Joseph’s. He made the step up to Premiership rugby with Bedwas in 2018/19 playing 22 times, and has also had plenty of experience having developed through the Cardiff Blues Academy; representing them at u16 and 18 level.
Ben White – Usually an outside half, White joins Bridgend from Bedwas. Prior to his spell with the Was, he turned out for Cardiff University and his home town club, Dinas Powys. Ben made 49 appearances for Dinas, scoring 294 points before tying up with Bedwas last season. He provides another exciting option for Richard Fussell and Tom Grabham’s back division for the coming campaign.
Andrew Evans – 25 year old back three flier Evans joins up with Bridgend having previously turned out for Cardiff University, Bedwas, Ebbw Vale, Wales Students and Wales 7s and arrives at the Brewery amidst plenty of competition for his signature. Originally from the Isle of Man, he made his way to Wales to study at Cardiff University before making the switch to Bedwas. He moved on to Ebbw Vale and has most recently been seen plying his trade for Newport, who he made 12 appearances for last season.
Lewis Evans – Lewis has experience of playing rugby in Bridgend having trialled with the Ravens in 2016. He played for Bridgend Athletic that season before moving onto Bedwas. Hailing from Resolven, Evans is equally adept playing anywhere in the back division but typically operates at outside half. He spent the majority of last season sidelined with a shoulder issue but heads for 2019/20 back to full fitness and raring to go.
We’ll bring you the new additions to the squad amongst the forwards later in the week..
