Bridgend Ravens were left to rue another slow start against Swansea as the All Whites took the spoils on derby day at the Dunraven Brewery Field.

The Ravens gave Swansea a 20pt advantage during the Cup Quarter Final held at St Helen’s a few weeks ago which proved too much to turn around and they afforded Hugh Gustafson’s side the same luxury this time around too.

To their credit, Bridgend were improved in the second half but it was too little too late as Swansea took away victory.

It was almost a perfect first half for Swansea. Rhys Jones kicked an early penalty before Owen Thomas sniped over for a converted try soon after.

Jones went on to kick another penalty as the Whites cemented their dominance, but with time ticking away before half time, Joe Thomas benefitted from some sloppy back field play from Bridgend to score. Jones again converted.

Bridgend created plenty of chances at the start of the second period but it took Tom Smith’s side until the 60th minute to score. Gareth Harvey was at the tail of another Ravens driving maul to bundle over for an uncovered score.

The Ravens had their tails up and bagged another try ten minutes later. Hemi Barnes powered his way over for a score which Rhys Williams improved.

That was unfortunately as good as it got for the home side, despite some good opportunities, as Swansea avenged the St Helen’s reverse fixture defeat earlier this season.

Bridgend are next in action at the Talbot Athletic Ground on Saturday when they face Aberavon.
