Bridgend secured a spot in the Premiership Cup Quarter Finals with a convincing victory over North Walians RGC at the Dunraven Brewery Field on Saturday afternoon.

A young RGC side struggled to contain an in-form Bridgend, who raced into an early lead. Luke Price slipped through the defence and found Cameron Ellis out wide, the Wing raced over for an opening score.

Ben Thomas added Bridgend’s second, knowing the law the ball over the try line at ruck time allowed the Second Row to reach over and touch the ball down for the try.

Bridgend added a third try at the half hour mark. A strong driving maul saw Connah Vaughan get on the scoreboard. All three tries were left unconverted from the touchlines.

The visitors bagged a late first half score as they were able to race around the covering Bridgend defence. Joseph Gatt scrambled to make a tackle just sort of the line but Matt Buchanan was on hand to finish the move.

HT Bridgend Ravens 15-5 RGC

RGC opened the second half on the front foot adding three points from the boot of Sam Earl-Jones.

Supporter’s Man of the Match Cameron Ellis bagged a second try with a solo break away, stretching over for the touchdown.

Just a couple of minutes later Bridgend struck for an excellent score. A strong maul made ground before Tommy Morgan burst into the 22 with centre partner Joseph Gatt on his shoulder. Gatt was halted 10 metres out but quick recycling saw Edd Howley waltz over. Rhys Williams landed the extras.

The Visitors got back to within two scores with a hard earned try through replacement hooker Rhodri King.

RGC’s lineout faltered late on allowing Alex George to charge up field. Bridgend won the penalty allowing Rhys Williams to edge the Ravens further ahead with a penalty goal.

With the clock in the red Edd Howley added his second, the Ravens sixth to round out a comprehensive win and secure their name in the draw for the Quarter Finals.
