Bridgend Ravens were handed a thumping defeat by Indigo Premiership leaders Newport at Newport Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The rampant Black and Ambers ran in 13 tries in total to condemn Bridgend Ravens to their biggest defeat of the season. Bridgend crossed for four tries of their own to take away a bonus point, but it was certainly an afternoon to forget for Tom Smith’s side.

Despite the heavy defeat, Bridgend were level as we entered the game entered the second quarter. However, Newport ran riot scoring six tries in 16 minutes to take away the game from the visitors.

Newport opened the scoring through Matt O’Brien, a try and conversion from their talismanic fly half.

Bridgend struck back through Corum Nott on debut. The Wing showed excellent feet to beat his man and dot down in the corner. Jamin Hodgkins added a great touchline conversation to level.

Newport then ran in 40 unanswered first half points in less than 20 first half minutes. Tries from Joe Westwood, Iwan Pyrs Jones, Lloyd Lewis, Che Hope, and Matt O’Brien ensured the contest was well over by halftime.

Newport racked up an unbelievable 89 points in total with second half scores from Ben Roach x3, Rynard Landman, Josh Reid and Lloyd Lewis. Matt O’Brien landed 12 conversions bringing his personal points haul to 34.

Bridgend managed a try bonus point, touching down three times in the second half. A bright spark for Bridgend being Corum Nott adding a second score on his first outing in Blue and White.

Gabe Lacey added an interception score before Edd Howley raced over for a fourth Ravens try.

Bridgend are back in action on Saturday afternoon when Merthyr visit the Dunraven Brewery Field (2:30pm).
