17 Aug Squad to face Llandovery in Brewery Field Friendly
Bridgend Ravens will belatedly kick off the 2023/24 campaign with a pre-season home match against Llandovery at the Dunraven Brewery Field on Thursday evening (7:30pm).
Bridgend saw their opening pre-season tie against Beddau cancelled on Saturday and have swiftly moved to arrange a fixture against the Indigo Premiership Champions. The Ravens then welcome Bournville to the Dunraven Brewery Field on Bank Holiday Saturday 26th August.
Llandovery’s game scheduled for last weekend was also cancelled, with the Drovers’ bus breaking down en route to Cinderford on Saturday morning! Both sides will hope for more luck as they look to kick start their pre-season campaigns this week.
The sides met as recently as the 1st of April last at the same venue, with Llandovery coming out on top 31 pts to 8. The first half was a closely fought affair before the Drovers pulled away in the second half as they pushed on to secure a play-off place and eventually the Indigo Premiership title.
Head Coach Tom Smith will run the rule over a wider squad this week, with the plan to give game time to a range of squad members, including a raft of youngsters and new faces. Amongst those involved are Bridgend College product and Maesteg Celtic’s outside half George Richards and Nantymoel’s Lewis Hughes along with scrum half Callaghan Smith and back row Alfie Llewellyn who are all in line for club debuts.

Admission to the game is £5 for Adults, with u16 free.
