05 Jun Ravens capture Wizard Harvey
Bridgend Ravens are delighted to announce the first signing ahead of 2017-18 is hooker Gareth Harvey, who puts pen to paper after eight seasons at Aberavon.
Hailing from Kenfig Hill, the 26 year old Bridgend College product has turned out 149 times for Aberavon since joining the Wizards ahead of the 2009/10 season. Having played for Wales a number of times in 2009 for Wales U18, he made the move to the Talbot Athletic Ground, making his debut against Briton Ferry in August 2009, before going on to feature six times in his first season. Since then, he has been a key part of the Aberavon pack, making over fifteen appearances a season regularly.
Renowned for his mobility around the pitch and his powerful tackling, Harvey is looking forward to taking up a new challenge at Bridgend commenting, “I can’t wait to start a new chapter in my career at Bridgend next season. It’ll be great to join a new set of boys, but some who I’m already familiar with from my time in college rugby.”
Harvey has also played for Tata, Tonmawr and Kenfig Hill throughout his career, and continued, “I’m looking forward to developing as a player, and bringing a real physical edge to the squad. With the players already in the squad I know that the competition for places will bring the best out of me, and am looking forward to pre season getting underway for me to really show what I can do.”
Bridgend Ravens Head Coach Matt Silva is delighted with the new addition to the squad.
“Gareth will bring a wealth of experience to our young squad having played premiership rugby for a number of years. He is a non compromising player who will bring a hard edge to our forwards.”
“Being a local lad, he has a lot of friends at the Ravens which will make the transition from Aberavon a bit more comfortable. Myself and the coaching team are looking forward to working with him.”
More signings will be announced throughout the week as we look forward to 2017/18 pre-season getting underway.
