01 Jun Nathan the next Ravens Recruit
The second recruit to the Bridgend Ravens ranks for the new seasons is centre Nathan Edwards who joins from Llanelli.
No stranger to Bridgend supporters, Edwards returns to the club after stints with fellow Premiership sides Newport and Llanelli. A product of the Ospreys development pathway, he played age-grade rugby with the Eyasses up to U18 level. He also gained international recognition with Wales at U20 level in the Six Nations.
The former Wales U20 star leaves the West Wales side having turned out 44 times in two seasons, scoring nine tries. Nathan has also represented the Scarlets Premiership Select Side and Scarlets 7s in the prestigious Singha 7s tournaments.
The midfielder has already pulled on the Ravens jersey 95 times and at just 25 years old, still has his most of his best rugby years ahead of him. He was a key member of the squad which steered Bridgend back to the Premiership in 2010/11 having made his breakthrough to the first team towards the tail end of the previous season.
Edwards joins up with Matt Silva’s charges in time for pre-season and is delighted to have put pen to paper with his first senior club.
‘I’m very happy to have re-signed for the club. I’ve had 3 years away at both Newport and Llanelli, but I’ve always had a strong desire to wear the Bridgend jersey again.
I’ve had the experience of playing at different clubs and I’m looking forward to adding that experience to the team this year.’
Head Coach, Matt Silva was pleased to have secured the services of Edwards.
‘Nathan is an experienced Premiership player who will add some real quality to our outside backline. He is a skilful footballer who will add more firepower to a potent attacking midfield, he will also provide invaluable knowledge and know how to our developing young three quarters. He is another local boy who fits in with our plans at Bridgend Ravens.’
