17 Jul Forward options bolstered as Kieran joins up
Bridgend’s forward options have been further bolstered for the coming campaign by the signing of Kieran Martin from Llanharan.
The signing of Martin further demonstrates Bridgend’s commitment to the fruitful development pathway in providing the best local talent a platform to showcase themselves at Principality Premiership level. It is also a continuation of our ongoing relationship with Llanharan, which includes closer work with their coaching set up.
A standout performer for Llanharan last campaign, Kieran joins up with the squad for pre-season having played most of his professional career with Llanharan. He’s also enjoyed stints with RC Diok in Holland and Gatton Black Pigs in Australia. His father David, was club captain at the Dairy Field for a number of years and is now involved in coaching the first team at Llanharan.
Equally adept in the back or second row, he made 19 appearances for the Blue and Blacks last season, scoring 5 tries and now makes the move to the Brewery Field to test himself at the highest semi-professional level in Wales.
Having confirmed his move to Bridgend, Kieran said
‘I’m proud to have signed for such a big club as Bridgend. I’ve always aimed to play the highest standard of rugby that I can achieve and I will be looking forward to competing for a place in the squad.
I already know most of the squad so it’s nice to come in and just concentrate on learning and getting better as a player. The team is full of talent and it will be great experience working with them all.’
On signing Kieran, Team Manager Ed Griffith commented
‘We are really pleased to have signed Kieran from Llanharan. He has great potential and is another local talent, standing at 6’7 tall!
His versatility and athleticism allows him to play both second row and back row. He is someone we’ve had our eye on since he impressed us in our end of season friendly last year.’
