17 Jul Dafi commits to Bridgend
Bridgend Ravens are delighted to announce the signing of forward Dafi Davies from Pontypridd.
The versatile back rower joins Matt Silva’s squad after spending the past few seasons with our Principality Premiership friends Pontypridd.
Initially from West Wales, Davies moved to Llantwit Major and spent his early rugby years at Millfield School.
Dafi’s form was enough for the Cardiff Blues Academy to take note. His initial academy years were spent at Llanharan before a promotion to Premiership level with Pontypridd. Davies’ move to Pontypridd was made permanent in December 2015 where he left an impression as a tough, abrasive forward. Still with his best rugby years ahead of him, the 22 year old now moves onto Bridgend Ravens.
Dafi commented ‘Pre season so far has been frustrating as I’m carrying an existing shoulder injury. My main focus is to get match fit at the moment and get up to speed with the rest of the boys who are working hard at the getting gym, skills and conditioning done each time we train.
The boys have been great in welcoming me to the squad, particularly as I haven’t yet been able to fully participate in training. I’m really excited to sign for a young, ambitious squad with a great work ethic.’
Having secured the services of Davies, Head Coach Matt Silva said, ‘We are really pleased at Bridgend having signed Dafi for the coming season. He is a versatile back row forward who has exceptional footballing skills. He will compliment our style of play with his dynamic style and his hard edged approach in the contact area.
Dafi is a real team man and he will fit in well with the environment and culture we are growing at the Brewery field. This also further evidence of our commitment to providing development to local players.’
Dafi’s secured his place at the Brewery Field for 17/18 – it’s time for you to do the same! Bridgend Ravens season tickets are now on sale.
