20 Aug Bridgend 27-31 Rams Rugby
Bridgend Ravens continued their pre-season campaign with the visit of English National League 2 side Rams RFC to the Morganstone Brewery Field.
The clichéd tale of two halves is well applied to the Ravens’ second pre-season clash, with the visiting Rams notching four first half tries. The visitors built a sixteen point halftime lead but Bridgend fought back in the second half, falling to a narrow four point defeat.
Ryan Evans slotted an early penalty, before Bridgend were forced to defend for nearly 10 minutes deep in their own 22 as the Rams hammered away. The sustained pressure eventually told as Kidd crashed over for the opening try. Seers converted.
Loose head prop Kidd added a second try, 20 minutes into the contest as the visitors set piece proved to be well on top in the opening quarter.
With half an hour played, Bridgend added their first try of the match. A mauling effort from the Ravens’ pack helped develop a big overlap, and the hosts made sure to exploit it. Wing Will Holley dotted down out wide for his second try of pre season. Evans converted.
Fly half Alex Seers pulled the strings throughout the half, constantly handing his side great field position. The Rams struck back immediately as Ellis Jones raced over for the visitors third try of the half.

A blistering start to the second half saw Aaron Grabham bag two tries in the opening ten minutes. The wing latched onto Will Holley’s cross kick to claim his first, and shortly after, Grabham showed his pace as he raced from his own half to slide over for his second, following a good counter attack move from the Ravens.
As the final ten minutes approached, the Rams went back to their power game, maul drives followed by powerful scrummaging forced Bridgend deep into their own 22. The Rams spread the ball wide after a strong defensive period from the Ravens, where Tudor raced over out wide.
As the clock struck 80, Bridgend added their fourth try of the contest. Jamie Murphy’s pinpoint pass sent Chris John through a gap in the Rams defence and the second row raced from halfway. Bridgend Athletic product, Will Barraclough was on hand to race over for his second score of pre season. Murphy’s conversion sailed between the posts as the full time whistle arrived.
