Local lad Lucas strengthens backline for 2020/21

The latest addition to Bridgend Ravens’ squad for the new season is scrum half Tom Lucas.

Tom joins up with the Ravens from fellow Indigo Premiership club Swansea after one season with the Ospreylian side.

His early years were played out at Cowbridge RFC where he also played for the Cardiff Blues Academy during his time at the club.

His form earned him a contract with Cardiff RFC in 2017. During his time at the capital, he continued to appear for the region’s academy and for the Cardiff Blues Premiership Select side. Lucas then switched to Newport and enjoyed two seasons at Rodney Parade, making seventeen appearances.

For season 2019/20, Tom signed up with Swansea and made five appearances for Hugh Gustafston’s side. He now makes the move a little closer to home and is raring to go with the Ravens when it’s safe to do so.

He commented ‘I’m really looking forward to playing for a club with a great history which is closer to home. I can’t wait to get back to playing rugby after a break and to test myself in a new environment with new challenges.’

Backs Coach Tom Grabham was pleased to add his namesake to the squad ‘I’m really excited to have Tom with us for the coming season. Although he’s still young, he comes to us with bags of Premiership level experience which will be hugely important for us. From a coaching point of view, I’m really looking forward to working with him as he’s shown over the years that he’s got plenty of potential and an exciting edge to his game.’
