Chris John Bridgend Ravens

Team to face Swansea (H)

Bridgend Ravens welcome Swansea to the Timbuild Brewery Field on Saturday afternoon, looking to back up last weekend’s impressive win at Church Bank.

Bridgend’s victory at Llandovery was their second of the competitive season so far. The other, also away from home, against Llanelli by 21 pts to 18. Bridgend’s two home matches have seen them taste defeat against Carmarthen Quins and Aberavon.

Swansea won their first game of the season last weekend, smashing Llanelli at St Helen’s by 53 pts to 15. The hosts forward prowess demolished the Llanelli pack as they ran riot in the second half to claim a bonus point win. Elsewhere this season, the All Whites lost to Llandovery, Aberavon and Carmarthen Quins to leave them three points and one place behind the Ravens going into Saturday’s game.

The last time the two sides played one another was back in December 2019. In front of a good Festive Crowd, Bridgend came out on top 17 pts to 3. Tries from Dewi Cross and Ryan Hall and the boot of Owen Howe saw Bridgend home that day in tough conditions. The Bridgend faithful will be hoping for more of the same this weekend.

Dewi Cross is back in Bridgend colours this weekend and he joins Edd Howley and Tom Florence in the back three. Jamie Murphy and Joseph Gatt continue in midfield, with Matthew Jones and Harvey Nash the half backs.

After impressive cameos last weekend, Garyn Phillips and Ben Warren are selected in the front row alongside Gareth Harvey. Kieran Martin gets a start in the second row, partnering captain Chris John. Reuben Tucker is the only survivor from last weekend’s starting team in the back row; Joe Grabham and Rob Dudley Jones, both replacements last weekend, claim the starting jerseys to play alongside him in the back row.
