Bridgend Ravens hosted the first Bridgend Rugby Pathway skill session at the Dunraven Brewery Field at the end of October.

As part of the recently launched Bridgend Rugby Pathway (BRP), students from Bridgend College, under the watchful eye of Head of Rugby and former Bridgend Raven, Craig Warlow, ran a session to improve the skills of former and current Bridgend District Schools U11 squad.

The two hour session, instigated by Bridgend Ravens Pathway Manager, Paul Watkin, saw just under 60 participants learn and develop a variety of basic rugby skills that should help and build on the already exemplary skills learned under the BDSRU coaches.

The initiative was the first of many sessions that the Bridgend Rugby Pathway intends to run and whilst this one concentrated on this particular age group, future sessions will look at the older age groups and girls rugby.

Bridgend Ravens Pathway Manager Paul Watkin said “We are keen to bridge the gap in the county between Under 11 and Under 16 age groups of both male and female rugby. This was our first step in doing this and the feedback from players and families was extremely positive with more of the same being asked for.  

Behind the scenes, Bridgend Ravens are working hard to bring more activity to these younger players and allow them more exposure to the game and skills involved to progress safely and enjoyably with the sport. We look forward to introducing more initiatives like this in the coming season and beyond.”
