Bridgend Ravens welcome Merthyr to the Dunraven Brewery Field on Saturday afternoon in their final home league match of 2023/2024 (2:30pm). 

It’s been a mixed bag of a season for Tom Smith’s side and last Saturday’s defeat at Newport by 89pts to 26 was the low point. The Black and Ambers ran in 13 tries in total to condemn Bridgend to their heaviest defeat of the semi-professional era. This Saturday’s match is Bridgend’s opportunity to bounce back, but they face a resurgent Merthyr side that have certainly improved their own form since Christmas.

Merthyr narrowly lost out in the Premiership Cup final to Llandovery a fortnight ago and were beaten at Cardiff last weekend. They sit seventh in the league standings with 11 wins from their 21 games to date. It’s set to be the last time that Bridgend face Merthyr in league action for some time though, with the Ironmen opting to not apply for next season’s Elite Domestic Competition; instead taking their place in the revamped Premiership.

The reverse fixture earlier this season was an end to end spectacle which saw both sides throw the ball around. The Ironmen came away victors by 50pts to 32 in a tie which saw Bridgend come away with a bonus point for bagging four tries.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 2:30pm, admission is £12 adult, £10 concession and u16 free.
