Bridgend kicked off their pre-season campaign with an emphatic win in Birmingham as they travelled to face Bournville at Avery Fields.
A first opportunity for newly appointed Head Coach Scott Baldwin to put the squad’s hard work over the summer to the test.
Bridgend had the better of the opening quarter, bagging three tries whilst dominating possession and territory. Debutant Ioan Pascoe touched down out wide with 10 minutes played as the Bridgend forwards worked hard in the corner.
Iwan Griffith added the Raven’s second shortly before Kyle Harris raced in a third in the opening 20 minutes.
The hosts worked hard all half and built their way back in to the game, touching down for their opening score right before halftime.
HT Bournville RFC 5-17 Bridgend Ravens
Bournville struck immediately in the second half, bagging a second try in 2 in game minutes, but Bridgend upped the intensity to quash any thoughts of a comeback.
Luke Price mopped up some loose Bournville passing to dot down a Ravens fourth of the afternoon.
Bournville added a third try following a good move off the back of their strong scrum but Bridgend pushed on, showing off their pre-season fitness work, finishing the final quarter with five further tries.
A second debutant to grab a try, Ryan Wilkins’ powerful line saw the Pontyclun product race over.
Bridgend added two in two minutes, rumbling over from close range, before Kyle Harris added his second of the afternoon, the Ravens seventh.
Iwan Griffith, impacting the game from the wing just as effectively as he did in the centre in the first half, raced in an interception score before Zach O’Driscoll rounded off an emphatic Bridgend performance.
