Bridgend snatched victory with the last kick of the game, securing a home tie in the Wildcard Round of the Super Rygbi Cymru playoffs in front of the S4C Clic cameras at the Dunraven Brewery Field on Thursday evening.

A back and forth encounter with both sides crossing the whitewash five times each, Bridgend edged it thanks to their final maul effort from Corey Lewis and Luke Price’s cool head.

Bridgend struck first through Tom Jevons. The Ravens’ pack mauled over the line and Jevons touched down. Ben Burnell added the extras.

The Drovers struck back through a maul of their own. Wales U20 star Harry Thomas spinning over. Sam Potter levelled with the successful conversion.

Bridgend hit back through in-form Cameron Ellis, though the winger just had to dot down out wide as Edd Howley drew the wide defender to create acres of space for Ellis to score. The conversion was sent wide leaving Bridgend ahead by five with twenty minutes played.

Llandovery struck for their second five minutes before halftime. The impressive George MacDonald touched down, Potter added the extras seeing the visitors lead by two at the break.

The Ravens struck early in the second half to retake the lead. Edd Howley broke through midfield and kicked out wide, finding Ryan Wilkins for the score. Burnell sent the conversion wide leaving Bridgend three points in front.

The visitors hit back again through George MacDonald, the scrum half touching down under the posts. Potter converted.

Bridgend edged back ahead through Evan Yardley’s score. The hooker touched down off the back of a well executed maul drive. Luke Price, making his first appearance since January due to injury, took over the kicking duties and slotted the extras.

Llandovery looked to have sealed the win with two Tomi Lewis tries in two minutes, pushing Llandovery out to a nine point lead with six minutes to play.

Bridgend didn’t let their heads drop and pushed on. Luke Price added three from the tee to get Bridgend into bonus point territory, now trailing by six, Bridgend pushed for a winning score.

That score arrived with the clock well into the red. Another big maul effort forced it’s way over with Corey Lewis bundling over for the try. All eyes now turned to Luke Price, 10 Metres from touch, a kick to claim five points.

The experienced fly halves’ curling effort crept inside the posts, the assistant’s flags went up, and the home faithful erupted.

Bridgend secured a home Wildcard playoff tie and are set to welcome Swansea to the Dunraven Brewery Field on Thursday 24th April, with a 7:30pm kick off.
