Bridgend rounded out their Super Rygbi Cymru Cup group campaign with a high scoring victory over North Walians RGC at the Dunraven Brewery Field on Saturday afternoon. 

A tie resembling a basketball game at times, both sides traded scores up to the final whistle in an entertaining and open match.   

Bridgend struck twice in the opening 20 minutes stretching out to a 14 nil lead. 

Callaghan Smith was on the end of McCauley Rowley’s inside pass following the wide man’s break. Smith raced under the posts, and converted his own score for a 7 point lead. 

Ryan Wilkins, making his final appearance in Blue and White this season before he departs for Australia, bagged the Ravens second following a break into the RGC 22. Wilkins was on hand to dot down after good work from Tom Jevons. Smith landed the extras. 

RGC quickly found themselves level with two scores in quick succession. Patrick Nelson and Sam Williams both bagging scores, converted by Dion Jones.  

Just before the halftime whistle arrived, Captain Zac O’Driscoll fought his way over for Bridgend’s third try. Callaghan Smith converted for a 7 point halftime lead. 

HT Bridgend Ravens 21-14 RGC  

A back and forth second half saw both sides touch down four times each, all successfully converted. 

The visitors struck first in the second half with a quick score from Rhys Tudor, levelling the tie early in the second half. 

McCauley Rowley struck back, collecting a kick through to dot down under the posts. Smith converted.   

RGC hit back just 10 minutes into the half, this time through Sam Stoddard. The successful conversion from Dion Jones levelled the tie once again. 

Bridgend hit back, scrummaging five metres out. RGC’s initial defensive effort held out before some soft hands in midfield found Tom Florence for the score. Edd Howley converted.  

With 10 minutes left to play, Bridgend lost Tom Jevons to the bin, and RGC levelled the tie once again. Sam Williams scored from close range, the successful conversion drawing the visitors level.  

Bridgend struck for a sixth try. A well executed chip was gathered and offloaded in one move by Joseph Gatt, finding Jake Thomas in space, the flyer raced over for the score. Edd Howley added the extras. 

Bridgend put the game to bed with a seventh try of the afternoon, Edd Howley stepped through the defensive line finding Gatt whose neat offload allowed Harvey Nash to waltz over. Nash converted his own score.  

RGC struck for a late score through Caio Parry, converted by Jones, but Bridgend held out to secure victory in their final Super Rygbi Cymru Cup fixture, rounding off Pool A in style. 

The Ravens are next in action in Super Rygbi Cymru when they face Ebbw Vale at Ciner Glass Community Stadium on Thursday 27th March, kick off 7:30pm in a match broadcast by S4C Clic.
