02 Oct BRIDGEND RUGBY PATHWAY TO BE CELEBRATED ON THURSDAY

Bridgend Ravens are set to celebrate the Bridgend Rugby Pathway at this Thursday’s Super Rygbi Cymru match against Swansea at the Dunraven Brewery Field. 

The Bridgend Rugby Pathway partnership formalises the longstanding relationship between Bridgend Ravens and Bridgend College Rugby Academy. It has been a fruitful relationship over the years, with several players representing the college before going on to play for Bridgend Ravens.

Prior to the match, there will be the official launch of the pathway jerseys – with each pathway team set to wear a similar jersey produced by Belief Sports.

The ethos behind this jersey is that it allows the younger players to ‘earn their stripes’ and become a Bridgend Raven Player of the future. The design of each kit bears similarities with that of the Ravens, starting with the Bridgend District Schools, which has a single stripe on the shoulder.  As the pathway progresses through U16 and our partnership with Bridgend College, you “earn your stripes” with ultimate aim being the achievement of the four stripes on the iconic Bridgend Ravens jersey.

Ahead of the game, there’ll be photographs of the Bridgend Ravens Captain, Bridgend College Captain, Bridgend District u16 (Dewar Shield) Captain, Bridgend District u11 (DC Thomas) Captain all wearing the pathway jerseys.

Over the past 12 months Bridgend Ravens, with the appointment of Paul Watkin as Pathway Manager have been busy implementing a structure that will help young rugby players develop.

Naturally, not every player will follow that path but our pathway looks to streamline the path for players to the highest level. For example, we have introduced school satellite sessions throughout the academic year, and community events such as last May’s Primary School pathway tournament. We believe that we are giving as many borough children the opportunity to represent Bridgend Ravens in future years.
