Bridgend Ravens came away from Church Bank empty handed despite a spirited display against reigning champions Llandovery.

Bridgend started the brighter, and the Ravens’ talismanic full back Edd Howley bagged the opening score with a try following a strong maul drive.

The hosts hit back with their first foray into the Bridgend 22 with a try from Jamie Hughes. Jack Maynard added the extras to hand Llandovery a two point lead.

The Ravens reclaimed the lead with more excellent mauling from the forwards. Tyler Olding, continuing on from an impressive debut a week ago, steered the maul to the line where it was brought down illegally. The penalty try was awarded and a yellow card shown.

Bridgend couldn’t take their chances to add to their tally, despite having the wind advantage. It was Llandovery that added to their score with a try from Aaron Warren on his 250th club appearance, that was converted by Maynard, late in the half to head into the break with a two point lead.

A hard fought second half saw Llandovery battle for two further tries, securing the bonus point win. Bridgend defended valiantly, holding the Drovers to just the two second half scores through Taylor Davies and Ed Scragg. Bridgend Ravens Supporters’ Man of the Match, Barnaby Waddell, stood out in a huge defensive effort, but the Ravens failed to trouble the scoreboard going down 28 points to 12.

Bridgend are next in action when Newport visit the Dunraven Brewery Field next Saturday afternoon (2:30pm).
