Bridgend Ravens and Carmarthen Quins played out an entertaining tie in Super Rygbi Cymru on Saturday, but both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.

The Ravens, who had led 10-0 at the break, salvaged a late draw thanks to a late Corey Lewis try and Lloyd Wilkins conversion after a stirring comeback from the hosts in the second half.

Carmarthen dominated the opening 15 minutes but the Ravens resolute defence stood firm. Bridgend led at the break, Fly Half Luke Price’s penalty on the 20 minute mark edged them ahead before Cameron Ellis bagged the game’s first try.

Ellis found some space on his wing before kicking ahead and the bounce of the ball was kind and landed perfectly for the Bridgend wing to touch down. Price landed the extras to hand Bridgend a 10 point half time advantage.

A clichéd tale of two halves saw Carmarthen hit back immediately in the second half with a try from Jac Howells. A score with just two second half minutes on the clock got the hosts back in the game with plenty of time to play.

Carmarthen levelled with a penalty from Ifan Davies in the 65th minute but plenty more drama was to come.

Bridgend, with their best attacking moment of the second half, built their deep into the Quins’ 22. A cross kick attempt was cleanly gathered by Carmarthen’s Thomas Williams who raced 90 metres to for the score to lead for the first time in the match as the final 10 minutes arrived. The conversion by Davies pushed the hosts out to a 7 point lead.

Bridgend battled late to earn more than a losing bonus point and up stepped Corey Lewis. Running hard, the replacement hooker stretched for the line ,managing to dot down to leave a pressure conversion to level the scores. Lloyd Wilkins made no mistake and split the uprights to clinch a share of the points.

Bridgend are back in Super Rygbi Cymru Cup action next when they travel to Llandovery for a 1:30pm kick off in Pool B on Saturday afternoon.
