Ebbw Vale maintained their impressive form with a seven try to two victory over Bridgend at the CiNER Glass Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A hard fought first half saw Bridgend trail by 9 at the break. Ebbw Vale hit first with the ever-impressive Evan Lloyd getting the games first try.

Bridgend struck back as Cameron Ellis won the race to dot down a Fraser Jones kick through. Jones landed the tough conversion to level.

Bridgend lost Benji Williams to the bin and the hosts took full advantage.

Ebbw Vale’s maul was a weapon all afternoon, getting hooker Joe Franchi over for the first of his hat-trick as halftime loomed.

Bridgend added a penalty from the boot of Fraser Jones to close the gap, but in fumbling the resulting kick off, the Steelmen found great field position and their maul got to work again. Franchi added a second, his side’s third right on the stroke of halftime to stretch Ebbw’s lead to 9 at the break.

The host’s second half performance saw four further tires to Bridgend’s one, quickly putting any chance of a Bridgend come back.

Ebbw Vale added three scores on a poor second half showing for Bridgend before Alfie Thomas was shown yellow for a penalty at halfway.

Bridgend saw Corey Lewis bag a consolation late in before the hosts added a final score to down the Ravens but 7 tries to two.

The Ravens head into a pair of festive derbies against Cardiff next, with the first a game at the Arms Park on Saturday afternoon, kicking off at the later time of 3:15pm.
