Bridgend Ravens let a ten point half time lead slip as Llandovery secured a bonus point win in the Super Rygbi Cymru Cup tie at Church Bank on Saturday afternoon.

Bridgend built a 10 point lead in the opening 20 minutes in a dominant performance. Bridgend’s scrum was on top early, but it was the interplay from the forwards that secured the game’s first try. Wilkins slotted three more for the Ravens with a 20 minute penalty before Llandovery built into the game and despite Bridgend being on top, they weren’t able to add to their advantage any more before the close of the half.

The hosts made too many errors in the first forty, coupled with a hounding Bridgend defensive effort, which left them trailing by 10 at the break.

It was a very different second half, which has become a recurring theme of late for Bridgend, that saw Llandovery run in four unanswered converted tries to take the game away from their shell shocked visitors. Corey Baldwin, Cam Lewis (x2) and Lee Rees raced in for tries, all converted – by Steff Jac-Jones and Ioan Hughes (x3).

Bridgend struck late through Gabe Lacey who showed good pace and composure to score. Wilkins again converted.

Llandovery added a fifth through former Scarlet Baldwin with time up securing a 33pts to 17 win which cements themselves at the top of the SRC Cup Group B table with three wins from three. Bridgend now sit in third place, and welcome Ebbw Vale to the Electric Brewery Field next weekend.
