Cardiff picked up all six points from the first of a festive double header with Bridgend Ravens at the Arms Park on Saturday.

Bridgend started the first half reasonably well and even led at one stage, but the class of the capital side eventually told as they ran away comfortable winners.

It was the home side that struck first with a try from hooker Alun Rees, neatly converted by Harri Wilde.

That sprung Bridgend into life, with outside half Ben Burnell breaking free of some poor home tackling to dive in for a try he converted himself.

Moments later, it was Mccauley Rowley’s turn to score after Cameron Ellis spotted a gap to feed his fellow winger. Burnell’s conversion went wide.

Unfortunately, that was as good as things got for the visitors. Ben Fry battled his way through for a score improved by Wilde to put the Blue & Blacks back ahead.

Bridgend went on the attack once more, but Burnell’s pass was picked off by Ieuan Davies who sprinted the length of the field to score and extend his side’s advantage.

Cardiff weren’t done yet. Ben Fry scored again from close range to put Cardiff 16 points up at the interval and to compound Bridgend’s misery, Tyler Olding was sent to the bin.

There was to be no festive cheer for Baldwin’s men in the second half as Cardiff bagged three further tries for Osian Darwin-Lewis, Tom Howe and Joe Williams.

Bridgend’s discipline cost them further with captain for the day Marc Thomas yellow carded, and Harry Olding receiving a red card during the second half.

The sides meet again on Saturday afternoon, this time at the Electric Brewery Field for the return Rivals Round Match (2:30pm).
