Bridgend Ravens will play their Super Rygbi Cymru Cup Plate Semi Final away at RGC after defeat to Swansea at Dunvant RFC’s Broadcare on Friday evening. 

It was a tight contest between the two Ospreylian sides for much of the match, but the Whites just had too much in the end for Scott Baldwin’s side.

Swansea started the better and despite their pressure, struggled to make it count, thanks to some determined Bridgend defence.

Cam Jones eventually finished off a nice Swansea move for a try at the quarter of an hour mark, and this gave the home side the boost they needed to kick on.

Second row Ben Roberts was next to cross under the posts, converted by Josh Phillips.

Bridgend bounced back with a superb try from Benji Williams, who coasted through the remaining Swansea defence. Lloyd Wilkins converted.

Things got worse for Bridgend though as Kyle Harris saw yellow and two minutes later, Luca Giannini crossed for his sides third try, converted again by Phillips.

Despite being down a man, the visitors had the final say if the half with a try from Fraser Jones. The full back was on the end of McCauley Rowley’s kick through to score near the posts, with Lloyd Wilkins’s extras the final act of the half.

Swansea struck first in the second half to extend their lead with a try from SCORER HERE, Phillips’ conversion going wayward.

Bridgend fought back and after Alfie Thomas’ break was cutely supported by Harvey Nash, the scrum half thought he’d scored, but it was adjudged to have gone forward in the act of scoring and the Whites cleared.

The Ravens didn’t have to wait long though and struck in quick succession to level the game. Corey Lewis was the first to cross from a driving maul before Harry Olding touched down two minutes’ later. Crucially, both conversions were missed and the game was all square with the tie in the balance.

Bridgend had the momentum but it was Swansea that finished the game stronger with three tries in the final ten minutes. Logan Lloyd and Ben Roberts both scoring to seal victory. The Ravens did briefly bounce back with a try from replacement Morgan Boobyer but it was Swansea’s day and victory was secured thanks to a converted try from Jacob Hopkins.

Bridgend now travel to RGC in their plate semi final with Swansea hosting Carmarthen Quins, both games being held next Saturday at 2:30pm.
