Indigo Premiership champions Llandovery picked up a bonus point win at the Dunraven Brewery Field on Friday evening against Bridgend Ravens.

The Ravens were led out by Stuart Floyd Ellis who was making his 100th appearance for the club. They made the worst possible start though as the Drovers scored their first try within a minute. Scrum Half, Lee Rees was able to cross after some slick hands for a try converted by Ioan Hughes.

It got better for the visitors when the impressive Harri Doel got on the scoresheet, showing a smart turn of pace to cross. Hughes again converted.

Luke Price added a penalty on 20 minutes which turned out to be Bridgend’s only score of the half.

Things got better for Llandovery just a few minutes later when Osian Davies cantered over for their third try, again converted by Hughes.

The rest of the half petered out with little danger to the scoreboard with Bridgend knowing there was plenty of work to do at the interval.

The start to the second half was a much better one for the home side. The ball was worked wide neatly and Edd Howley crashed over for an uncovered try. Llandovery stayed in control though as Hughes kicked a penalty five minutes later to extend the advantage.

Bridgend went on the attack and were punished by a sweeping counter attacking move from the visitors. After surrendering possession in the Llandovery half, Adam Warren was able to get his side’s bonus point score which was converted by replacement Jack Maynard.

The Ravens kept going and got their reward for a sustained period of pressure when Gareth Harvey scored from the back of a rolling maul.

The scoring was rounded off ten minutes from time when Jamie Hughes got Llandovery’s fifth and final score.

The final exchanges of the game were messy, although Bridgend will have been pleased to see outside half Paul Short get another ten minutes of game time under his belt following a return from injury. Hemi Barnes also took a other step back with an appearance from the substitutes bench as Bridgend now look ahead to a trip to the Lextan Gnoll to face Neath on Thursday (7:30pm).
