14 Dec PONTYPOOL 58-25 BRIDGEND

Pontypool picked up all six points in an open Super Rygbi Cymru match against Bridgend Ravens at Pontypool Park on Saturday which saw the Ravens also claim a four try losing bonus point in defeat. 

A great start saw Bridgend race into the lead with a try from Ben Evans after just two minutes, making his senior rugby debut. The youngster broke through on halfway and rounded the Pooler’s Jordan Williams to score. Burnell missed the extras. 

Pontypool hit back with a penalty before the Ravens bagged a second try. 

Evan Yardley touched down as the driving lineout powered over, stretching the visitors out to a 7-point lead with Burnell’s conversion. 

Pontypool levelled with a converted try before Bridgend rounded out the half to go in 10 points up at the break.  

Another fine score for the Ravens saw McCauley Rowley break and find Chris Williams for the score. Burnell added the extras before landing a Penalty for a double digit half time advantage.

It was a half to forget for the Ravens which saw Pooler narrow the gap to just two points within the first 4 second half minutes.  

A penalty and unconverted try were just a taste of what was to come. Pooler adding seven second half tries securing a six-point win, condemning Bridgend to a fifth successive defeat.  

Bridgend managed a second half try from Rhydian Greenhall which did secure a four try bonus point. The only positive that can be drawn from a difficult second half. 

The Ravens are next in action when RGC visit the Dunraven Brewery Field on Saturday.
