Bridgend Ravens were comprehensively beaten at Pontypool Park on Saturday afternoon, with the Gwent side running out comfortable winners in the Round 5 Super Rygbi Cymru match. 

Things started poorly for the visitors and Kieran Meek gave Pontypool the early lead with a penalty. Bridgend bounced back soon after and a neat backs move saw Chris Williams snipe over for a try. Fraser Jones’ conversion was charged down.

From then on, it was all Pontypool as Bridgend were beaten in every facet by Pooler. Morgan Lloyd was the first to cross, converted by Meek.

Further tries were scored by back row Ieuan Jones and Rhys Cole; those tries extending the hosts’ advantage to 17 points.

Scott Baldwin again turned to his replacements bench at the break, introducing Luke Price at outside half and the move almost paid off. Jake Thomas gathered the outside halves kick off and Bridgend were able to go within inches of the home side’s try line with Mccauley Rowley bundled into touch.

Pooler bagged a bonus point score after 50 with hooker Evan Wood crossing, a try set up and converted by the instrumental Meek.

The Gwent side now had full control and Pat Lewis coasted in from 30m for another try.

With Pontypool down a man thanks to a yellow card for the Dragons’ Solomone Funaki, the Ravens were able to strike with a try from hooker Tyler Olding. That’s as good as it got for Baldwin’s side though, with wing Rhys Cole rounding off a resounding victory for Pontypool.

Bridgend will have to dust themselves off with a trip to high flying Llandovery on Thursday evening next on the agenda (7:30pm).
