Bridgend Ravens ended the regular season with a comprehensive defeat at Stadiwm Eirias.

Scott Baldwin’s heavily rotated side fell to defeat in Colwyn Bay, RGC running out 57 points to 14 victors. The Bridgend Head Coach took the opportunity to blood some new faces, including a number from the Bridgend Rugby Pathway.

Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Scott Baldwin’s men, with two debutant’s getting over the line. Bridgend were well in the game at halftime, and will have been disappointed not to have crossed the whitewash on a couple more occasions.

Bridgend took the lead thanks to Dom Manaseitava’s powerful burst. Breaking into the RGC 22, debutant Manaseitava, peculiarly finding himself in the 6 jersey due to late injuries, after initially being selected to start at hooker, sliced through for the score. Fraser Jones converted

The hosts struck for three quick fire tries to pull out to a 19 point to 7 lead before Bridgend worked back into the half.

Bridgend stretched the RGC defence as the half went on, and Iwan Powell found some room out wide. The young fullback broke free to secure his first score in blue and white. Fraser Jones again landed the conversion to claw Bridgend back to within 5 points.

A tough second half for Bridgend saw RGC run in six unanswered tries. Bridgend created opportunities throughout the half but couldn’t get themselves over the line.

The loss means Bridgend will face Aberavon at the Talbot Athletic Ground in the Wildcard playoff round on Thursday evening at 7:30pm.
